For years friends, family and students have nicknamed Kevin Tooher, Sir Plantalot, and he like the name as it reflects who he is; someone with a good sense of humour who also likes plants and planting.

Recently he started his own business, Sir Plantalot, to help the people of Kent create and improve their gardens, combining practical help with running gardening courses at Brogdale in Faversham and teaching at Coolings Nursery in Knockholt, near Sevenoaks.

He loves sharing his passion for gardening and helping people to improve their knowledge, with a mission to reach as many people as possible to encourage them to garden and to have fun. He likes to see how excited people get watching the first seeds they plant grow and flower or hearing about the pleasure they get when they take a cutting and it doesn’t die! He has also enjoyed helping many people escape from unhappy jobs to move into all areas of horticulture.

For the last ten years he has been working as a lecturer, teaching horticulture to students at Hadlow College. Career highlights have included meeting people like Roy Lancaster (known by many for his work on BBC Gardeners World) and being involved as a trial judge for the RHS at Wisley where plants are assessed over three years to see if they qualify for an award of Garden Merit.
