Our special house plants

My three repeat-flowering orchids, putting on a beautiful show at the New Year 2022. I don’t know the names of these orchids but it doesn’t prevent me from loving them.

Calathea orbifolia is supposed to be hard to grow but ours is thriving. Just keep it damp with an occasional spray. Syngonium Arrow just keeps on growing in our bathroom! Spathiphylium Peace Lily - we usually have difficulty in getting a Peace Lily to flower again but this one is doing just fine!

Our “Volcano” cactus

We were on holiday, self-catering at the foot of Mount Etna in 2002, when this cactus joined us. It was about 1 inch high and was given away free at the local grocery with our bag of shopping. I’m not a house plant person but, rather than throw it away, we brought it home. Etna erupted spectacularly while we were there. And back home in Marden so has the cactus - it is now 30 inches tall with virtually no care at all. I love it!

My “Pinch Me” plant

This is the perfect house plant for me as it thrives on almost no attention and just keeps going. I particularly like the way that the new growth is bright and variegated, and its generally trailing habit. It is a succulent but I have no idea what it is called, nor where or when I pinched the first little stem of it. It rooted perfectly and at one point grew so large in the bathroom that we couldn’t get into the bath.

As it roots so readily I have taken many cuttings - just break a bit off, stick it in compost and off it goes. Anyone would be very welcome to a pinch of it.

These are two of my more unusual houseplants. The Krinkle Rose (Syngonium Podophylum) has a delicate pink/pale green, papery effect. Easy to look after, it doesn't mind if you forget to water it! The smaller plant of Fishbone Cactus (Disocactus anguliger or Epiphyllum anguliger) is a cutting from the photo of the mature plant. It now has two buds which are about to flower. The added bonus is the flowers have a lovely smell, even though its called Fishbone Cactus!

A Mystery Plant

A good friend of mine has this houseplant. She has no idea of the name and neither do I.

Can anyone help?
