Marden in Bloom

It was Marden in Bloom’s AGM last Thursday evening- a very civilised affair held in the beer garden of the West End Tavern (…only 6 per table, of course). It was a chance to reflect on the achievements of the past year including the autumn bulb sale (my tulips were beautiful!) and Marden in Bloom’s second Scarecrow Safari.  In such a difficult year, it was a great event that  brought the village together as we followed the map searching for the scarecrows; each one brought a smile to people’s faces, revealing the quirky humour and talent there is in Marden.

Hopefully, many of you will also have seen the new wildflower meadow in Southon’s Field planted by the Bloomers (have a look at the attached record of the wild flowers that emerged). Of course, there is also the 20 000 plus spring bulbs that the group has planted around the village and the distinctive planters that have recently been re-planted with summer blooms.

Speaking of the planters…watering them is a mammoth task and if anyone is able to water a planter near where they live then I know that it will be much appreciated by everyone who walks by.  There are more bulb planting sessions coming up on October/November so if you’re free for a couple of hours, why not come along? They’re good fun and anyone can join in. On Saturday 11th September, there will be the annual bulb sale near One Stop and I recommend that you get there early as it’s a popular event! Plans for next year include a Fashion Show next spring and a Garden Safari in late June.  There will be a wide range of gardens to visit - one of them could be yours and you can model the new outfit that you bought at the Fashion Show.
