The story of my garden - Part 1

How long is a piece of string? Or more accurately, how long does it take to realise a garden design?

Well, you will find out in due course. We moved into a house with a very low maintenance garden in 2012. My initial attempts at beautification, maybe not the black bin bag.

Although south-facing, it was a 1980s wildlife desert of lethal decking and purple slate overshadowed by 20ft Leylandii.

Inspired by what could be done in a small garden when I saw Angela Durnford’s on the Garden Safari, out came my small garden design books, scale drawings were drawn, care was taken to accommodate the ‘utility area’, tense negotiations were undertaken regarding the size of the shed: “No! it couldn’t occupy half the garden” and “No, it’s a garden shed, not a man cave”. The one requisite from my garden-hating husband was some grass.

I have watched my fair share of garden makeover programs so when I came up with my fantastic design, I naively thought it would take a couple of weekends – how wrong could I be? Possess your soul with patience, all will be revealed next month… or may be the month after…
